demons:

Operating room at a Lebensborn facility, Germany, 1936. Lebensborn was a Nazi program set up by SS leader Heinrich Himmler that provided maternity homes and financial assistance to the wives of SS members and to unmarried mothers, and also ran orphanages and relocation program for children. In line with the racial and eugenic policies of Nazi Germany, the Lebensborn program was restricted to individuals who were deemed to be “biologically fit” and “racially pure”, “Aryans”, and to SS members.
After World War II, it was reported that Lebensborn was a breeding program. While individuals were not forced to have sex with selected partners, the program did aim to promote the growth of “superior” Aryan populations through providing excellent health care and by restricting access to the program with medical selections that applied eugenic and “race” criteria.
During the war, Lebensborn also processed the adoptions by German families of children from occupied northern and eastern Europe, mostly orphans. At the Nuremberg Trials no evidence was found of direct involvement by the Lebensborn organization in the kidnapping of thousands of Polish children who were subjected to “Germanization” by sending them to re-education camps and fostering them out to German families. This project, also directed by Himmler, was carried out by other segments of the Nazi bureaucracy.

You all should follow Kimberly’s war experience, kesselschlacht. Just saying.

Terribly interesting.

bewitchingbritain:

bewitchingbritain:  There are three places called Windsor in England: Windsor, Berkshire, home to Windsor Castle; Windsor, Cornwall; and Windsor, Lincolnshire. THREE WINDSORS there will be a quiz on this later.
The Crooked House of Windsor (built 1592) in Berkshire was originally a market house which acquired its famous tilt due to the use of unseasoned green oak. The house contained a secret passage to Windsor Castle (unsurprisingly this is now blocked) from its basement; reputedly used for illicit meetings between King Charles and his mistress Nell Gwyn.
Originally a butcher’s shop; this building has served as a jeweller’s, a brewery, an antique shop, and a gift shop; and is presently a tea room. (info crooked-houseofwindsor.com)

Another place to visit before I die.
